Vlieland is the smallest of the inhabited Wadden Islands. With it is approximately 26 km of cycle paths and 40 km of marked hiking trails a popular destination for cyclists and walkers. On the west side is a vast nature reserve with Europe's largest sandy plain; the Vliehors. Part of the Vliehors is a military practice area, but is accessible on weekends.
Vlieland can be reached with the ferry service & nbsp; Harlingen-Flanders. The duration of the crossing is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes by ferry and 45 minutes with the express service (limited speed). The boat arrives in the port of Oost-Vlieland; the only village on it Island. No cars are allowed on the island. Bicycles can be rented at Jan van Vlieland or Zeelen a short distance from the boat.
Nude recreation is permitted on the entire beach, with the exception of the supervised beach at the seaside road (between posts 50 and 51). Here is the beach pavilion 't Badhuys.
There are no facilities on the beach. Vlieland is the only one of the Wadden Islands with breakwaters. Stay with swim at least 25 meters from these dams.
