Schoorl aan Zee, a seaside resort without permanent buildings, is located behind the beautiful nature reserve the Schoorlse Duinen, with the widest (5 km) and highest dunes (54 meters) in the Netherlands. With its 60 km of hiking trails, the nature reserve is very popular with cyclists and walkers. A large part of the dune area used to be wooded to prevent drifting. Nowadays, the dune area is allowed to drift again, as is the case with De Kerf, which is located on the nudist beach section.
Schoorl aan Zee is not accessible by car, the nearest car park is at Hargen aan Zee, about 3 km away.
Nudist recreation is allowed between posts 29.50 and 31.80. On the beach, the area is indicated by the pink color of the beach post head. Since 2017, the nudist beach is also signposted. Nudist recreation is still taking place in the area between beach posts 31.80 and 32.25 (Bergen aan Zee side), before 2010 an official nudist beach.

There are both breakwaters and rows of piles on the beach, which are dangerous when swimming. Swim at least 25 meters away from this.
