The Rutbeek is a recreational area of ??approximately 120 hectares, southwest of Enschede. In 1975, the construction of Het Rutbeek was started as a recreation area, around a capriciously shaped former sand extraction lake. It is now one varied area with forests, a swimming lake with beaches and sunbathing areas, meadows and recreational facilities. A bungalow park with 250 recreational homes will be built on the east side of the lake in the coming years.

Five different beaches are situated around the swimming lake, which are indicated by colors. Around 1980 an illegal nudist beach was created on the east side. After a number of years, the administrators turned the east side into a swamp, so that this place for beach recreation was no longer attractive.

The nudist recreation area (yellow beach) is now located on the southwest side of the lake. The area is signposted. It is also clearly indicated on the signage. Look at the route page for accessibility.

The nudist beach of 1.8 hectares, consists mainly of sunbathing areas, on the waterfront a small sandy beach. Due to the presence of a few free-standing trees, there are also plenty of shady places on hot days. The site also has a volleyball court. There is a toilet building with shower on the nudist beach (will be renovated in 2022), there are no other facilities. A paved footpath that forms part of the circle around the lake runs along the nudist beach near the water.

There is a kiosk on the textile beach (blue beach, about 1000 meters away). There is also a restaurant at the artificial ski slope and the diving center.

The swimming water has a demarcated swimming area with a depth of approximately 0.50 meters. Out here, the bottom drains quite quickly and the bathing water has a depth of about 2.50 meters. The part in which you may swim naked is also closed off with a float line. The bathing water is clear and has sufficient transparency.
