General

The nudist beach of Kijkduin is the southernmost of the two nudist beaches on the Zuiderstrand of The Hague. For the route and location, see the route page. In the period between 2008 and 2011, the entire coast between Hoek van Holland and Scheveningen was reinforced. At Kijkduin the dunes have been widened and the beach has been sprayed on. The beach is this has made it much wider and the Delfland heads (breakwaters) have disappeared under the sand.

On the south side of the nudist beach, in 2011 the Sandmotor, an artificial hook-shaped peninsula, constructed. The northern hook of the Sand Motor is in front of the nudist beach, creating a lagoon (bay). At low tide, the lagoon almost completely dries up and the nudist beach lacks a direct swimming opportunity. You can swim on the sea side of the Sand Motor (about 600 meters from the nudist beach). On the section of the Sand Motor in front of the nudist beach is also recreated nude.

With the adoption of the beach memorandum 2017-2022 “The beach belongs to everyone”, the nudist beach section has also been designated as a kite zone. During days with wind it is very busy with kite surfers and swimming in the lagoon is dangerous.

The Monster nudist beach that had to disappear due to the construction of the Sand Motor has been moved to the beach section north of the Watertoren beach entrance and connects to the south side of the nudist beach of Kijkduin.

Nude recreation is allowed between dam 20 and dam 21 and also 80 meters before dam 21, (190 meters north and 260 meters south of pole 108). The dams are no longer clearly visible, but the area is (usually) clearly marked on the beach with signs. Some dune formation has taken place on the nudist beach, providing excellent shelter from the wind. Recreation in the fenced off dunes behind is not allowed.

There are no facilities on the beach. The beach pavilion with kite school BLOW Beach House (former Klein Ockenburgh beach pavilion) is 190 meters from the northern border.

There is no bathing supervision on the nudist beach, the nearest rescue post is located 650 meters from the northern border, near beach entrance 2.

De dichtstbijzijnde officiële zwemwaterlocatie is Kijkduin op 1900 meter afstand. Voor uitgebreide informatie over deze zwemwaterlocatie, kijk op de site van zwemwater.nl.

Het zwemseizoen is momenteel gesloten, vanaf 1 mei wordt de zwemwaterkwaliteit weer gecontroleerd.
