General

The island of Ameland has four small village centers, from west to east: Hollum, Ballum, Nes and Buren. The ferry port is fairly central on the island, about 1.5 km from the village of Nes. The main tourist attractions on the island are the 27 km long beach and the beautiful nature. There are also many pleasant terraces and nice shops in the villages. Tourist cars are allowed on the island, but on Ameland tourists' bicycles are the most important means of transport. Ameland has around 90 km of cycle paths. Just behind the dunes of the North Sea beach runs a long cycle path from west to east, with many turns to the various beach entrances.

Ameland can be reached with the ferry service Holwerd - Ameland.
The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes. There is a bicycle rental at 5-minutes walk from the boat.

The APV has been adjusted since 2013 and nude recreation is officially permitted between posts 18 and 20. On the beach section indicated here, nude recreation by the municipality is prohibited . Because the municipality does not have the authority to prohibit nude recreation, quiet beach areas also remain suitable for nude recreation.

The beach between posts 9 and 11 is suitable for nude recreation. This part is used much less for nude recreation than the part at pole 18. Therefore do not recreation too close to the beach entrances. There are no facilities on the nudist beach. The closest beach pavilion Sjoerd is at the beach entrance Badstrand Nes, 2300 meters from the eastern border.

It is forbidden to swim in the sea at low tide. Bathing times are listed on the Ameland municipality site.

There is no bathing supervision on the nudist beach, the nearest post of the rescue brigade is at beach entrance Badstrand Nes.
